How ethylene gas would affect cut flowers?
The ethylene gas would shorten the vase life of cut flowers. It released by the natural ripening process of fruits and vegetables can shorten the flower vase life, inhibit the development of immature flower buds, and damage developing flower bulbs, especially Phalaenopsis cut flowers. Keep away from any source of ethylene gas.

How should I handle the flowers after receiving them and keep them fresh?
(1)If the flowers will be used within 1 to 2 days after receiving, please unpack the flowers immediately and carefully. Remove the cotton and water tubes. If the flowers are not used right away, it is better to keep the flowers inside the box and place them inside the cooler. Please make sure the water tubes still have enough water left. (2)Remove 3/4" to one inch from the bottom of the stem at an angle. Use a sharp knife or sharp floral cutter or scissor. Avoid smashing or piercing the stems. (3)Place in clean vase with room temperature water mixed with the proper amount of fresh flower food. If the flower food solution becomes cloudy later, replace it entirely with properly mixed flower food solution. If possible, re-cut stems again. (4)Keep flowers in a cool spot of 18 – 22 C (65 - 72 F), away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, directly under ceiling fans, or on top of televisions or radiators. Most flowers will last longer under cool conditions. Keep away from any source of ethylene such as fruits or vegetables.
